Project 6- Programming

The Guidelines

I did mine a little differently. In order for the students to be able to communicate with QLab, the had to use the ETC Element Board. With my future career goal, the Grand MA 2 was the board I knew I wanted to be more familiar with. This meant using Reaper to Time Code my piece, vs putting the cues into QLab.

The Process

Thank GOD for my friend Trevor Cole. Trevor has been a huge help to me in my process of learning the Grand MA 2. He came down to Fredonia to help me learn the process of time coding with the Grand MA (also thank you Christian Jackson for your Youtube videos). I started by time coding a piece I had already designed to get myself familiar with the software needed. What software did I use? Great Question. Three programs were used to create the final product: Midiloop, Reaper, and Grand MA 2. I was really surprised at how simple time coding was after I did it once. Once I knew how to get the programs to talk to eachother, all that was left to do was design the new song.

I chose the song All That by Oliver Tree. I originally wanted to do 745 Sticky by 100 Gecs, but wow that is a beast of a song. I knew doing All That would still be a challenge, but ultimately a better choice for my schedule, and well-being. The song has a very flow-y vibe to it, so my lights are constantly moving, with some strobe effects. I was really into the color orange for some reason when I did my design, so now looking at it, it's a little too orange, but I enjoy it.
