Emanuel Treeson - Storyteller

While looking through professional credits of major events, one name stood out right away. It was an eye-catcher because his name was posted under almost every one of the events. Emanuel Treeson labels himself as a collaborative storyteller. He uses his knowledge of lighting and media to help tell that story.

Treason’s extensive experience includes work with Microsoft, Disney, multiple car companies, Amazon, and Xbox which had won an award for. He is also known for his large-scale special event designs. One important one in his life was the world premiere of Dreamworks film Shark Tale which took place in Venice at the Piazza San Marco where they had to light up an entire square and architecture. Installing lighting fixtures in architecture is one of Treeson's specialties. Cue lines are the most common use of lighting architecture and Emanuel has installed for those types of situations multiple times. Treeson’s educational background includes an MFA from Carnegie Mellon in Lighting Design.

In a detailed video with Emanuel, he talked about a piece of technology called the ALEXA camera by ARRI. Different from the Amazon Echo, Alexa, this one is a high definition, 4.5k resolution camera. With his work with live productions and events, cameras and lighting have to work together. The way you see light in person is way different than on a camera. This ALEXA camera gives the lighting designer more freedom to boost contrast and color and not cause any downplaying. The use of cameras for events is something many upcoming lighting designers don’t think about. The nice thing about it is that better technology causes designers to not think about it and design with what they see in front of them.
